The M4 bank drafts are among the oddest items of revenue stamped paper. Gray was not used to print Type M's for any other known user, and such a late usage is not known for any other Civil War era check. The two banks in question would have had to have been in the same relationship for thirty odd years, and the checks would have had to have been stored somewhere all that time, unused. Unless someone can unearth the full story, these items must speak for themselves.
