William T. Blow

In 1864 William T. Blow was a salesman for his brother, Peter E. Blow, of Saint Louis. Later he is listed as a wholesale druggist. For whatever reason, his name was featured on the private die stamps used for Dr. T. L. Stephens' Celebrated Chemical Eye Salve. Stamps were issued for most of the tax period, from May, 1863 through February 28, 1883. 805,009 were issued on old paper, 460,435 on silk paper and 649,740 on pink and watermarked papers. The copy shown is on silk paper.

After the tax ended the company had facsimile stamps printed for their eye salve. These vary in many details from the originals.
