Tarrant & Company

James Tarrant, druggist, produced Tarrant's Effervescent Seltzer Aperient in 1844. His son, John A. Tarrant, formed a company to manufacture and market the product, which in 1862 or 1863 became Tarrant & Company. The firm offered other products as well.

The Tarrant private proprietary stamp was first delivered in May of 1872 and last issued on April 2, 1883. 1,258,000 were printed on silk paper and 1,340,983 on pink and watermarked papers. The copy shown is on watermarked paper.
